P2P: Facebook Global Digital Challenge

P2P has reached more than 200 million people through campaigns run by 6,500 students from 375 universities in 75 countries.


The following universities and organizations in India have participated in the program: University of Delhi, Himachal Pradesh University, Lovely Professional University, Central University Jammu, Panjab University, University of Lucknow, Islamic University of Science and Technology, Maharshi Dayanand University, University of Kashmir, Chandigarh University, Pondicherry University, and Peer Network Communication Initiative team (from Jamia Millia Islamia University), University of Jammu and Jamia Millia Islamia Univeristy.

Encouraging young people to say no to violence

This campaign's goal was to inspire young people to act as change agents to counter violence and promote peace and brotherhood through dialogue and engagement. The team behind the campaign held in person symposiums, peace talks and marches, as well as a painting competition centered on the theme of peace. Their focus was on highlighting the role that individuals can play in bringing peace to their communities.

The GRAET Life, Maharshi Dayanand University

Creating awareness to challenge social and violent extremism

The GRAET (Globally Recognized Anti-Extremism Thinkers) Life campaign's goal was to create awareness among young people in India about the types of extremism they see in their communities, in order to shift mindsets and encourage those youth to become more vocal and civic minded. Through discussions on social media, as well as on their college campus, the team behind this campaign began a movement to challenge extremism that has been supported by local authorities, neighboring universities, and other organizations. One of the events they organized to rally students around their cause was a candlelight march that drew the support of Maharshi Dayanand University's Vice Chancellor, as well the local police force.

THINK It's All About Mindset, University of Jammu

Encouraging peaceful alternatives through positive mindsets

This campaign used classroom lessons, yoga, meditation, motivational lectures, and even counseling sessions with a clinical psychologist to help build positive mindsets in kids ages 10-15. The team behind the campaign reported that they had witnessed various incidents of youth involvement in extremist activities, and so they created this initiative to do their part to teach youth in their community about peaceful alternatives.

  • 2016 Demos Counter Speech Report (Part II)

    In October 2015, Demos published a report, supported by Facebook, which examined the activity of counter-speech and populist right-wing groups on Facebook and made recommendations for how counter-speech groups could more effectively diffuse their messages. This report sets out the summary findings of phase II of this project, examining how speech which challenges extreme Islamist narratives is produced and shared in different parts of the world. This comparative study looks includes data from France, the UK, Morocco, Tunisia, Indonesia and India.
